We are Hunter Locksmiths. The stall sits in the middle of the Asda car park at Edmonton Green, N9 0AL, just outside Argos. It has been there for years. People bring us keys while they do their shopping.
The vans go out from there across the whole of North London, from Barnet and Finchley over to Tottenham, Walthamstow and Chingford, up through Enfield and Southgate and down into Islington and Camden.
Cars and vans are the job. Lost car keys, keys that will not turn, immobiliser faults and vehicles you cannot get into. Any hour, any day.
You Have Two Options, And One Of Them Is Cheaper
If you can get the car to Edmonton, bring it. Leave it with us, go and do your shopping, and it will be done when you come back. That is how most of our car key work happens, and it is the cheaper way to do it.
If you cannot, because the keys are inside the car or the car will not start, we come out to you. That costs a bit more, because somebody has to drive there and sit with your car instead of working at the stall.
Nobody else in North London can offer you the first option. They have nowhere to park your car.
What A Car Key Actually Costs
Most replacement car keys with programming land in the £200 to £250 range. That is not our figure, it is the band our own customers tick when they leave a Google review, and they tick “reasonable price” alongside it.
It does move with the make, model and year, because a flip key with a blade is a different job from a proximity key for a newer car. So ring us with the registration, or send a photo of the key, and you get the price before anything starts.
Whatever we say on the phone is what you pay. No call out fee bolted on at the end, no evening surcharge, nothing added once we are standing there.
Worth knowing why we go on about this. One customer rang round “so many people from online” and was quoted what she called ridiculous prices. Another was quoted over £180 for a remote key for a Toyota Aygo. A third says other places charge double. We are not cheap for the sake of it, we just do not have a call centre to pay for.
The Call Centres Are The Thing To Watch
A lot of the results on the first page for a North London locksmith are not locksmiths. They are national booking operations. They take your details, add their margin, and pass the job to whoever is free. You wait longer, you pay more, and you explain which car park you are standing in to somebody in a different county.
We are not that. You get Akin, Eric or Hassan, and you can come and find us in a car park if you ever need to.
We Will Not Sell You Something You Do Not Need
A customer called us just before midnight on a freezing Friday. She had locked herself out of a house share, her phone was on ten per cent, and she did not want the lock changed because the other tenants would all need new keys.
Akin got there in under ten minutes and opened the door without touching the lock. Two or three minutes of work. She did not need a new lock, so she did not get sold one.
That was a house rather than a car, but it is the same principle on a vehicle. We do not drill a lock we can pick, and we do not replace a barrel we can repair.
Knowing North London Is Half The Job
We know which streets off Green Lanes a van cannot get down. We know Tottenham Hotspur matchdays turn N17 into a car park. We know the commuter car parks at Cockfosters, High Barnet and Oakwood fill with cars that sit for ten hours, which is plenty of time for a tired fob to finish dying.
That is not marketing. It is the difference between finding you in fifteen minutes and circling the block for half an hour.
