We are Hunter Locksmiths, a mobile auto locksmith covering Hertfordshire, from Potters Bar and Cheshunt up through Hatfield and St Albans to Welwyn Garden City and Hertford.
Replacement car keys, fob repairs, ignition faults and lockouts. Cars and vans only, which is why we are quick at it.
If It Is Not Right, We Come Back
Most of this trade is one visit and gone. Ours is not, and we would rather say so plainly than print the word guaranteed on a page and hope nobody tests it.
Keys and programming occasionally play up. When that has happened we have driven back out, checked the key at the customer’s house, and fixed it. In one case we sorted the customer’s spare key too, which had been faulty before we ever got involved.
It is not generosity, it is just cheaper than a bad review. But it is the thing to ask any auto locksmith before you book one.
What It Costs
A replacement car key with programming usually lands between £200 and £250. That range comes from the price band our own customers choose when they review us, and they mark it as reasonable.
It moves with the make, model and year. Ring with the registration, or send a photo of the key, and you get the price before anyone drives to you. Nothing is added afterwards and there is no call out fee.
Hertfordshire Is A Driving County
Which changes the work. Cars here do serious mileage, so we see worn ignition barrels constantly. A barrel almost never fails without warning. It gets stiff, then stiffer, then one morning the key will not turn at all and you are stuck on a driveway with somewhere to be.
If yours has been getting harder to turn since the spring, that is the one to deal with now. Repairing a barrel at the car costs a fraction of recovering the vehicle to a garage.
The rest is car parks. The station car parks at St Albans, Hatfield and Welwyn fill with cars left for a full working day, and a fob that was weak in the morning is often dead by the evening. South Mimms gets us out regularly too.
How Long We Will Be
Honest answer: it depends where in the county you are, and we will tell you on the phone rather than publish a number we cannot keep everywhere.
Nearer in, around Waltham Cross, Cheshunt and Potters Bar, we are quick. Out towards St Albans and Welwyn it is longer, and the A1 and the M25 decide a lot of it. If we cannot get to you fast, we will say so and you can make your own mind up.
Hertfordshire sits alongside our North London coverage, and we work across Essex too.
