We are Hunter Locksmiths, a mobile auto locksmith based in Edmonton, a few miles up the road. Walthamstow is a short run for us across the Lea Valley, and it is one of the busiest parts of our patch.
Cars and vans are the main job here rather than a sideline to house locks. Lost car keys, keys that will not turn, immobiliser faults and vehicles that will not open are what our vans carry the kit for, seven days a week and at any hour.
Why Walthamstow Keeps Us Busy
Parking is the short answer. E17 is dense, permit controlled and full of cars that live on the street rather than on a drive. Keys get shut in during the unload, fobs get dropped somewhere between the market and the car, and a barrel that has been stiff for months finally gives up on the one morning you are late.
The market itself generates its own calls. Walthamstow High Street is the longest street market in Europe, and on a Saturday the roads around it behave nothing like they do midweek. Knowing which way to approach matters as much as what is in the van.
Then there are the filtered roads. The Mini Holland scheme closed a lot of through routes around the Village and Lloyd Park, so a route that looks fine on a map is often blocked by a planter. We know the ones that are actually open, which is the difference between reaching you in fifteen minutes and going round the houses.
Blackhorse Road and Walthamstow Central give us the commuter calls. Cars left at eight in the morning and collected after dark, by which time a weak fob battery has finished dying. Plenty of trades work out of the Blackhorse Lane estates too, so van keys and van security are a regular call.
Walthamstow sits inside our wider East London coverage, so we also cover Leyton, Highams Park and Chingford from the same run.
